Tudor Petre
Sound Designer & Re-Recording Mixer
Tudor Petre is an award-winning Romanian sound designer. After having
graduated from the National University of Theater and Film Bucharest,
Multimedia Department (Editing & Sound Design), he followed an MA in
Film Editing at the same university, then he pursued his specialized
education in the UK, following a second MA at the National Film And
Television School (NFTS) on Sound Design for Film.
His recent prizes include the Best Sound Design Award at the Romanian
Film Industry Awards GOPO 2013 and the Romanian Filmmakers Union
UCIN Award for Best Sound Design, for the feature film SOMEWHERE IN
PALILULA (2012, director Silviu Purcarete, produced by Libra Film with the
support of the Romanian Cinema Center), world premiered in the competition
of Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2013.
He has been the constant collaborator as sound designer and editor, for the
past 10 years, of writer/director Adina Pintilie. Their medium length DON’T
GET ME WRONG, supported by ARTE France and Romanian Cinema
Center, was premiered in LOCARNO 2007 – Filmmakers of the Present
Competition, included in IDFA 2007 – Best of Fests selection, awarded
Golden Dove Best Documentary Award at DOK LEIPZIG 2007, Best
Woman Director Award at FICCO MEXICO 2008, selected/awarded in 50
international film festivals like: Thessaloniki, Montpellier, Trieste, Namur,
Documenta Madrid, Munchen, Koln, Moscow, Sarajevo, Docupolis
Barcelona, Warszaw, Krakow etc Their next collaboration, the medium
length OXYGEN, co-produced by FILMEX Romania, MANEKINO FILM and
the Cinema Studio of Romanian Ministry of Culture, was premiered in
Tiger Awards Short Film Competition of Rotterdam Film Festival 2010
and afterwards screened in Buenos Aires BAFICI 2010, Warszaw 2010,
Montpellier 2010, Thessaloniki 2010, Bilbao Zinebi 2010, Cork 2010,
Tampere 2011, Lisbon 2010, Cambridge 2011 etc and nominated for the
Best Short Film Award at Romanian Industry Awards Gopo 2011. Their
latest collaboration, the short film DIARY #2 won the ZONTA Award at the
Oberhausen Film Festival 2013. Previous to this, they made together
several student shorts, screened and awarded in international film festivals
like: Vienna Film Academy Film Festival, Beijing Film Academy Film
Festival, Warszaw, Circuito OFF Venice, Uruguay and others.
Tudor Petre has also been the sound designer for many other awarded film
